We are excited about the opportunity to spend two years serving in Northwest Haiti. We are hoping to apply our skills as engineers to help meet the physical needs of the people there. But we will also build relationships through connections forged while completing engineering projects and during everyday activities. It is our hope that through these relationships we can have the opportunity to share Christ with our new friends and enter into discipleship with them.
We are currently preparing for a vision trip, which is a short field visit to meet the lead missionaries in Northwest Haiti and learn about what they do first hand. We're also hoping to see the living accommodations and to get a better idea of what we'll need to bring for the long haul.
We leave for this vision trip on August 27th: only TWO WEEKS away! There's clearly a lot of nervous energy circulating around right now, but we're also excited to experience a new culture (if only briefly for now) and try out our French skills ;)
Neither of us has been to Haiti or a developing country, for that matter. So it is likely that we will bear witness to some extreme poverty on our trip, which we cannot fully prepare for. But we know that God has a plan, and we hope to see what role we play in that plan.
We're also anticipating meeting the lead missionaries, Bruce and his wife Deb, in person. They have lived in Haiti for almost 30 years and have a lot of experience and wisdom to offer about living in such a vastly different environment from that in the U.S. We've spoken with them on the phone and emailed back and forth over the past few months, but it's time to match faces with the voices.
Please be praying with us as we continue raising support and preparing for our vision trip. Also, information about how to support us as well as pictures and insights from our vision trip to come. So stay tuned!

The roads we can look forward to!
